Class C Commercial Driver's License

The commercial driving license class C (CDL) which is also known as a trucker's permit, has a broad range of vehicles. This is one of the most flexible CDLs. It can be used for everything from buses and recreational vehicles to passenger vehicles, and even hazardous transportation vehicles.

Straight trucks can be driven, box truck, dump trucks and buses that can carry 16 or more passengers including the driver.

Passenger Vehicles

New York drivers have a vast selection of driver's licence classes to select from. The classes are tailored to various requirements for driving and different types of vehicles. The class C non CDL license is perfect for those who wish to drive passenger vehicles such as sedans or station wagons. Drivers can add endorsements on their class C license for increased job opportunities. These endorsements could include tank (P), passenger (P), tank (T) or hazardous materials (H). The process of obtaining these endorsements usually involves passing additional knowledge exams and specialized skills tests.

Passenger vehicles in the class C license for non-CDL are limited to transporting up to 16 passengers, including the driver. Drivers are also required to limit the number of passengers younger than 18 they carry, unless it is an immediate family member or someone older than 18. Teen drivers under the age of 18 who are licensed with a class C license must have a parent or guardian in the vehicle at all times.

To be qualified for a non-CDL class C license, you must be 18 or older and pass a medical exam. You must also comply with federal regulations if you are planning to drive on interstates or transport dangerous materials.

A class M license is offered to those who want to drive motorcycles or mopeds. It is only accessible to junior drivers and only valid within the State of New York. Towing Vehicles

A category C + E licence is one of the most comprehensive HGV licenses that you can get, allowing drivers to operate a variety of large trailers and trucks. This includes both single and double-trailer trucks with a a maximum authorised mass (MAM) of up to 8,250kg. It also permits drivers to drive articulated vehicles such as coaches and lorries as well as the more basic drawbar vehicle, also known as an artic or tipper truck.

As well as passenger cars and trucks drivers with a category C licence can operate small commercial vehicles such as dump trucks, vans, and straight or box trucks. Certain employers require drivers to possess the T licence only for certain positions. Hazardous Materials

A driver who violates these rules can be held accountable for a DOT violation that could result in fines and penalties.
